Dr. Phil Promises Tough Love Through 2009 As long as husbands and wives and parents and children aren't living their lives the way he thinks they ought to, Dr. Phil McGraw is going to keep fighting the good fight. The host of the syndicated daytime talk show "Dr. Phil" has extended his contract for an additional three years.According to The Hollywood Reporter, McGraw will continue with his current gig through at least the 2008-09 season. The Good Doctor was already under contract through the 2005-06 season after an extension he signed in 2002."Dr. Phil," which is produced by Paramount Domestic Television and distributed by King World, premiered in 2002, launching McGraw, previously known as self-help guru to Oprah Winfrey, into a new level of fame. "Dr. Phil" is carried in nearly every corner of the country and the show has station deals through 2005-06.The show's 2002 launch was the most successful for any talk show since "The Oprah Winfrey Show" went wide in 1986.An author, milk pitchman, host and occasional adversary for David Letterman, McGraw has achieved a certain level of ubiquity in recent years, making guest appearances as himself on scripted programs like "Frasier" and "The Bernie Mac Show," as well as in at least one successful primetime special on CBS.
